ASSISTANT ENGINEER

Key Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor rolling mill equipment during shift operations.
• Control rolling parameters such as:
  • Rolling speed
  • Temperature
  • Tension
  • Thickness/gauge
  • Pass schedule
• Ensure smooth production flow from reheating furnace to finishing section.
• Supervise mill stands, guides, rolls, cooling beds, shearing machines, and related equipment.
• Monitor product quality including:
  • Thickness
  • Surface finish
  • Flatness
  • Dimensions
• Coordinate with maintenance team for breakdowns and preventive maintenance activities.
• Analyze production issues and troubleshoot operational problems such as:
  • Cobble formation
  • Roll wear
  • Surface defects
  • Misalignment
• Maintain shift production records, logbooks, and MIS reports.
• Ensure adherence to SOPs, safety standards, TPM, and 5S practices.
• Optimize productivity, yield, and energy consumption.
• Supervise operators, technicians, and shop-floor manpower during shifts.
• Coordinate with Quality, PPC, Roll Shop, and Utility departments for smooth operations.
• Ensure proper housekeeping and safe working conditions in the mill area.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of rolling mill process and steel manufacturing.
• Understanding of hot rolling/cold rolling operations.
• Familiarity with:
  • Mill stands (2HI/4HI/6HI/20HI)
  • AGC/AFC systems
  • Hydraulics & pneumatics
  • Process automation
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Basic knowledge of SAP/MS Office/production software.
• Good communication and team handling ability.

Educational Qualification

• B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in:
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Production Engineering

Experience

• 1–5 years of experience in Rolling Mill / Steel Plant operations preferred.
