ASSISTANT ENGINEER

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and control DRI kiln and auxiliary equipment operations.
• Maintain process parameters such as kiln temperature, feed rate, pressure, and product quality.
• Ensure achievement of production targets with optimum fuel and raw material consumption.
• Record and analyze operational data and prepare daily/shift reports.
• Coordinate with Control Room Operators, Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation teams.
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines.
• Identify process abnormalities and take corrective actions.
• Support shutdown, startup, and troubleshooting activities.
• Monitor quality of sponge iron and process efficiency.
• Participate in continuous improvement and cost-reduction initiatives.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of DRI/Sponge Iron manufacturing process.
• Understanding of kiln operation, process control, and metallurgical principles.
• Ability to read process trends and operational reports.
• Knowledge of PLC/SCADA systems is often preferred.
• Team coordination and shift management skills.
• Strong safety and environmental awareness.

Typical Duties During Shift

• Check kiln and cooler operating conditions.
• Monitor raw material charging and product discharge.
• Maintain process logs and production records.
• Coordinate breakdown handling with maintenance teams.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Report deviations and operational issues to senior engineers/shift in-charge.
