Job Title: Chemist – DM Plant

Role Overview

The Chemist (DM Plant) is responsible for maintaining water quality by operating and monitoring the demineralization plant, ensuring the supply of high-purity water required for boilers, turbines, and other critical processes.

Key Responsibilities

1. DM Plant Operation

• Operate and monitor DM plant systems including:
  • Cation, anion, and mixed bed exchangers
  • Regeneration systems
• Ensure continuous production of demineralized water as per plant demand

2. Water Quality Monitoring

• Conduct regular chemical analysis of:
  • Raw water, DM water, boiler water, and cooling water
• Maintain parameters such as:
  • pH, conductivity, silica, hardness, alkalinity
• Ensure water meets required standards for boiler operation

3. Regeneration & Chemical Handling

• Carry out regeneration of ion exchange resins using acids and alkalis
• Handle chemicals like HCl, NaOH, and other treatment chemicals safely
• Monitor chemical dosing systems

4. Troubleshooting & Optimization

• Identify issues like high conductivity or silica leakage
• Optimize plant performance and chemical consumption
• Suggest improvements for efficiency and cost reduction

5. Maintenance Support

• Coordinate with maintenance teams for:
  • Resin replacement
  • Valve, pump, and instrument maintenance
• Ensure minimal downtime of DM plant

6. Safety & Compliance

• Follow safety procedures for chemical handling and storage
• Use PPE and adhere to environmental and safety regulations
• Ensure proper disposal of effluents and regeneration waste

7. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain log sheets, test reports, and chemical consumption records
• Prepare daily/shift reports on plant performance
• Record deviations and corrective actions

Required Qualifications

• B.Sc. / M.Sc. in Chemistry
