Keys Job Description of a QC Chemist

1. Sampling and Testing

  • Collect and prepare samples of raw materials, process materials, and finished products.
  • Perform routine chemical analyses using standard test methods.
  • Conduct physical and chemical quality checks.

2. Laboratory Analysis

  • Carry out wet chemical analysis, titrations, gravimetric analysis, and instrumental analysis.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory instruments such as spectrophotometers, pH meters, moisture analyzers, etc.
  • Record observations and test results accurately.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Verify that products conform to specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify non-conforming materials and report deviations.
  • Assist in root-cause investigations of quality issues.

4. Documentation

  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, test records, and reports.
  • Prepare Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and quality reports.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and quality management systems.

5. Calibration and Maintenance

  • Calibrate laboratory equipment according to schedules.
  • Monitor reagent and chemical inventory.
  • Ensure proper upkeep of laboratory facilities.

6. Safety and Compliance

  • Follow laboratory safety procedures.
  • Handle chemicals and hazardous materials safely.
  • Comply with environmental and regulatory requirements.

Skills Required

  • Strong knowledge of analytical chemistry.
  • Familiarity with laboratory instruments and testing methods.
  • Good documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Attention to detail and data interpretation abilities.

Educational Qualification

 

  • B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry or
  • B.Tech./M.Tech in Chemical Engineering (depending on the organization and level of the post).
