DEPUTY MANAGER

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control Operations

• Monitor and control product quality throughout the rolling mill process.
• Ensure compliance with customer specifications, BIS/ASTM/ISO standards, and internal quality norms.
• Conduct inspection of billets, rolled products, TMT bars, wire rods, structural steel, or other rolled products.
• Supervise physical, chemical, and mechanical testing activities.

Process Quality Monitoring

• Analyze rolling parameters such as temperature, rolling speed, reduction ratio, and cooling practices.
• Coordinate with production teams to minimize defects like:
  • Surface cracks
  • Scale defects
  • Underfill/overfill
  • Bent bars
  • Lamination
  • Dimensional variation
• Monitor process capability and implement corrective actions.

Laboratory & Testing Management

• Ensure proper functioning and calibration of testing equipment.
• Review:
  • Tensile test reports
  • Bend/rebend tests
  • Hardness testing
  • Spectrometer analysis
  • Microstructure analysis
• Maintain quality records and test certificates.

Quality Systems & Documentation

• Maintain ISO/QMS documentation and audit readiness.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports.
• Handle customer complaints and conduct root cause analysis (RCA).
• Implement CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Actions).

Team Management

• Lead and supervise QC inspectors, lab technicians, and shift quality personnel.
• Conduct training on quality standards and inspection methods.
• Ensure discipline, safety, and productivity within the QC department.

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in Kaizen, Six Sigma, TPM, or Lean initiatives.
• Work on rejection reduction and yield improvement projects.
• Coordinate with maintenance and production for process optimization.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in:
  • Metallurgical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Materials Engineering
  • Production Engineering

Experience

• Typically 8–15 years experience in:
  • Steel rolling mills
  • TMT bar manufacturing
  • Long product mills
  • Hot rolling operations
• Minimum 3–5 years in a supervisory or managerial QC role.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of rolling mill processes and metallurgy
• Understanding of BIS/ASTM/ISO standards
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
• Statistical Process Control (SPC)
• Quality inspection tools and testing methods
• Leadership and team handling
• SAP/ERP knowledge preferred
• MS Excel and reporting skills
