ELECTRICIAN

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance

• Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment in the rolling mill.
• Inspect, test, repair, and replace electrical components, wiring, motors, control panels, switchgear, transformers, and lighting systems.
• Maintain AC/DC motors, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), soft starters, and electrical distribution systems.
• Diagnose electrical faults and restore equipment to service with minimum downtime.
• Carry out cable laying, termination, and panel wiring as required.
• Ensure proper earthing and electrical safety of all equipment.

Equipment Monitoring & Troubleshooting

• Monitor the performance of electrical equipment and identify abnormalities.
• Troubleshoot faults in rolling mill machinery, conveyors, cooling beds, shears, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary systems.
• Assist in commissioning, testing, and startup of new electrical installations.
• Coordinate with mechanical and production teams during maintenance activities.

Preventive Maintenance

• Execute preventive maintenance schedules as per the maintenance plan.
• Conduct insulation resistance testing, continuity testing, and routine electrical inspections.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and equipment history.
• Recommend replacement of worn or obsolete electrical components.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow electrical safety standards, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and permit-to-work procedures.
• Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during all maintenance activities.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and near-miss incidents.
• Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and emergency response drills.

Documentation

• Maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, and breakdown records.
• Record spare parts consumption and assist in inventory management.
• Read and interpret electrical drawings, circuit diagrams, and equipment manuals.

Continuous Improvement

• Suggest improvements to enhance equipment reliability and energy efficiency.
• Support implementation of TPM, 5S, Kaizen, and other continuous improvement initiatives.
• Participate in root cause analysis of recurring electrical failures.

Required Qualifications

• ITI in Electrician Trade (NCVT/SCVT) or equivalent technical qualification.
• Diploma in Electrical Engineering is an added advantage.

Experience

• Fresher: Basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems.
• Experienced: 2–5 years of experience in electrical maintenance of rolling mills, steel plants, or heavy industrial facilities.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of industrial electrical systems and maintenance practices.
• Familiarity with AC/DC motors, MCCs, VFDs, soft starters, transformers, and switchgear.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Proficiency in using electrical testing instruments such as multimeters, clamp meters, insulation testers (megger), and phase sequence meters.
• Basic understanding of PLC-controlled systems and industrial automation.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
• Basic computer skills for maintenance reporting and documentation.

Safety Responsibilities

• Strictly comply with all electrical safety regulations and company procedures.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and permit-to-work systems before performing electrical work.
• Wear and maintain required PPE.
• Ensure electrical isolation before maintenance activities.
• Immediately report hazards, incidents, and equipment abnormalities.

• Electrical equipment uptime and availability.
• Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
• Preventive maintenance compliance.
• Breakdown response and resolution time.
• Reduction in repeat electrical failures.
• Energy efficiency and electrical reliability.
• Safety compliance and zero electrical incidents.

Working Conditions

• Work in a hot, dusty, and noisy industrial environment.
• Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• May involve working at heights, in confined spaces, and near energized equipment, following approved safety procedures.
