Key Responsibilities

• Carry out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of SMS mechanical equipment.
• Inspect, repair, and replace worn or damaged mechanical components.
• Maintain equipment such as:
  • Converters/EAFs (Electric Arc Furnaces)
  • Ladle handling systems
  • Continuous casting machines
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Gearboxes, pumps, valves, and conveyors
  • Cranes and material handling equipment
• Perform alignment, fitting, assembly, and dismantling of machinery.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings and maintenance manuals.
• Lubricate equipment and monitor machine condition.
• Assist in shutdown and overhaul activities.
• Ensure availability of spare parts and proper tool usage.
• Follow safety procedures, permit systems, and housekeeping standards.
• Coordinate with production, electrical, and instrumentation teams during maintenance activities.

Required Skills

• Mechanical fitting, assembly, and troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of bearings, couplings, pumps, gearboxes, and rotating equipment.
• Ability to use measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, etc.
• Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Basic knowledge of welding and gas cutting (often preferred).
• Ability to work in high-temperature industrial environments.

Educational Qualification

• ITI in Fitter Trade (mandatory in most plants).
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may be preferred for senior roles.

Experience

• Fresher to 5+ years depending on position.
• Experience in steel plants, rolling mills, or heavy industries is often preferred.

Safety Responsibilities

• Use PPE at all times.
• Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Comply with plant safety and environmental regulations.
• Report unsafe conditions and equipment abnormalities immediately.
