Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of rolling mill equipment.
• Inspect, repair, and replace mechanical components such as bearings, shafts, couplings, gearboxes, rollers, guides, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
• Align and assemble machinery using precision measuring instruments.
• Troubleshoot mechanical failures and identify root causes of equipment breakdowns.
• Maintain rolling stands, pinion stands, cooling beds, shears, and related auxiliary equipment.
• Assist during equipment installation, commissioning, and shutdown maintenance activities.
• Ensure proper lubrication and condition monitoring of rotating equipment.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly diagrams, and maintenance manuals.
• Coordinate with production and electrical teams to ensure smooth plant operations.
• Maintain maintenance records, job cards, and spare parts usage reports.
• Follow all safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and PPE requirements.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices in accordance with 5S standards.

Required Qualifications

• ITI in Fitter Trade (NCVT/SCVT) or equivalent technical qualification.
• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering is an added advantage.

Experience

• Fresher: Basic knowledge of industrial maintenance.
• Experienced: 2–5 years of experience in a steel rolling mill or heavy engineering industry preferred.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of rolling mill equipment and mechanical maintenance.
• Ability to use precision measuring instruments (Vernier caliper, micrometer, dial gauge, etc.).
• Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Understanding of bearings, gearboxes, couplings, lubrication systems, and alignment techniques.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and maintenance documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Basic computer knowledge for maintenance documentation is desirable.

Safety Responsibilities

• Comply with all plant safety rules and standard operating procedures.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures before maintenance work.
• Use appropriate PPE at all times.
• Report unsafe conditions, equipment defects, and near-miss incidents promptly.
• Participate in safety training, toolbox talks, and emergency drills.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

• Equipment uptime and availability.
• Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
• Preventive maintenance compliance.
• Breakdown frequency.
• Safety compliance and zero lost-time incidents.
• Quality of maintenance work and reduction in repeat failures.

Working Conditions

• Work in a hot, dusty, and noisy industrial environment.
• Rotational shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Ability to lift heavy components and work at heights or in confined spaces when necessary.
