Job Purpose

The Fitter – Mechanical [RMD] is responsible for ensuring the smooth and reliable operation of mechanical equipment within the assigned working area. The position involves carrying out corrective maintenance activities, managing mechanical spares, and supporting safe and efficient plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Take complete responsibility for the assigned working area and ensure the proper functioning of mechanical equipment and machinery.
• Perform different types of mechanical maintenance, including preventive, predictive, breakdown, and corrective maintenance as required.
• Identify mechanical abnormalities, equipment failures, and potential breakdowns and take timely corrective action.
• Carry out fitting, alignment, dismantling, installation, repair, and replacement of mechanical components and equipment.
• Ensure proper maintenance and operational readiness of equipment in the assigned area.
• Manage and maintain adequate stocks of mechanical spares, tools, consumables, and maintenance materials required for routine and breakdown maintenance.
• Coordinate with seniors, shift personnel, and other departments for timely resolution of maintenance-related issues.
• Maintain proper housekeeping and ensure that tools, spares, and equipment are kept systematically in the designated areas.
• Follow approved SOPs, maintenance procedures, safety standards, and work permit systems while carrying out maintenance activities.

Safety & Compliance

• Strictly follow company safety policies, SOPs, work permit procedures, and statutory requirements.
• Ensure safe working practices during maintenance, repair, lifting, fitting, and equipment isolation activities.
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, equipment abnormalities, and potential hazards to the concerned authority.

Qualification

ITI – Fitter / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering

Experience

Relevant experience in mechanical maintenance in a steel plant, manufacturing industry, or similar industrial environment for 3 yrs. to 10 years.
