Fitter – Mechanical [RMD]

Position: Fitter

1. Job Purpose

To take responsibility for the assigned working area by performing various types of mechanical maintenance activities, ensuring the proper functioning of equipment and machinery, and managing spares and operational requirements to support smooth, safe, and efficient plant operations.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine, preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of mechanical equipment and machinery.
• Take ownership of the assigned working area and ensure the proper functioning, reliability, and availability of equipment.
• Identify mechanical faults, troubleshoot equipment problems, and carry out necessary repair and rectification work.
• Manage, maintain, and monitor the availability of mechanical spares, tools, and maintenance materials.
• Support the planning and execution of maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime and production interruptions.
• Ensure proper installation, fitting, alignment, dismantling, and reassembly of mechanical components as required.
• Maintain housekeeping and workplace organization in the assigned area in accordance with 5S practices.
• Follow all prescribed safety procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and maintenance guidelines while carrying out assigned tasks.
• Coordinate with Shift In-Charge, supervisors, and other team members to ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
• Maintain appropriate records of maintenance work, equipment breakdowns, spares consumption, and other relevant activities.
• Report abnormal equipment conditions, recurring mechanical issues, and spares requirements to the reporting supervisor.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing equipment performance, operational efficiency, and workplace safety.

3. Educational Qualification

ITI in Fitter / Mechanical Trade from a recognized institution. Relevant technical qualifications and practical experience in mechanical maintenance will be preferred.

4. Experience

Relevant experience in mechanical maintenance in a steel plant, rolling mill, or other heavy industrial environment.

5. Key Skills and Competencies

• Sound knowledge of mechanical maintenance and fitting practices.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of mechanical tools, equipment, and spare parts management.
• Ability to work effectively in a shift-based industrial environment.
• Strong sense of responsibility, discipline, teamwork, and ownership of the assigned working area.
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and operational excellence.

6. Reporting To

Shift In-Charge / Senior Engineer / Mechanical Departmental Head.

7. Performance Expectations

The incumbent will be expected to ensure timely maintenance execution, effective utilization of spares and resources, minimum avoidable equipment downtime, adherence to safety standards, and reliable mechanical support for uninterrupted plant operations.
