1. Job Purpose

To carry out mechanical maintenance, fitting, alignment, installation, and repair of Block Mill equipment to ensure smooth operation, equipment reliability, minimum breakdowns, and uninterrupted production.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of Block Mill equipment.

• Carry out fitting, dismantling, assembly, installation, and alignment of mechanical components.

• Inspect and maintain mill stands, rolls, roll assemblies, bearings, gearboxes, couplings, shafts, and spindles.

• Attend mechanical breakdowns and take corrective action to minimize production downtime.

• Maintain and repair equipment such as:

  • Block Mill stands and roll assemblies

  • Gearboxes, gear couplings, and drive systems

  • Roller tables and pinch rolls

  • Laying head and reforming equipment

  • Conveyor systems and material handling equipment

  • Hydraulic and lubrication systems

  • Cooling water systems and pumps

• Check and maintain proper lubrication of bearings, gearboxes, and other moving components.

• Carry out alignment and levelling of machinery using appropriate measuring instruments.

• Identify abnormal noise, vibration, overheating, oil leakage, and mechanical wear.

• Replace damaged or worn-out mechanical components as required.

• Assist in planned shutdown maintenance and major equipment overhauling.

• Maintain maintenance records, breakdown reports, and preventive maintenance checklists.

• Ensure availability and proper utilization of tools, tackles, and maintenance spares.

• Coordinate with the Production and Electrical Maintenance teams for smooth maintenance activities.

• Follow safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, LOTO, and PPE requirements.

• Maintain proper housekeeping and 5S practices in the maintenance area.

3. Qualification

ITI in Fitter Trade from a recognized institute.

4. Experience

Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in mechanical maintenance of a Steel Rolling Mill / Block Mill .

5. Technical Skills

• Knowledge of mechanical fitting, assembly, and dismantling.

• Knowledge of bearing, gearbox, coupling, and shaft maintenance.

• Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand equipment layouts.

• Knowledge of alignment, levelling, and precision measurement.

• Familiarity with hydraulic and lubrication systems.

• Knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance practices.

• Ability to identify mechanical faults and carry out troubleshooting.

8. Working Conditions

The position requires working in a steel plant environment, including exposure to heat, dust, noise, and heavy machinery. The candidate must be willing to work in rotational shifts and attend emergency breakdowns as required.
