Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) – SMS Mechanical Department

Position: Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET)

1. JOB PURPOSE

To support the SMS Mechanical Department in the effective execution and coordination of maintenance activities, ensuring equipment reliability, operational continuity, safety, and compliance with applicable management system requirements. The role involves exposure to preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities along with maintenance documentation, analysis, reporting, and supervision of maintenance personnel.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinate preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities to support equipment reliability and operational continuity.
• Ensure awareness and application of requirements related to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and related documentation.
• Conduct breakdown analysis and prepare maintenance performance reports.
• Enforce safety and housekeeping standards within the maintenance area.
• Coordinate daily maintenance operations in line with departmental requirements.
• Supervise maintenance teams and contract workers to ensure effective execution of assigned maintenance activities.

3. QUALIFICATION

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech.) from a recognized university/institution.
• Candidates with relevant academic exposure to mechanical maintenance, industrial equipment, and plant operations.

4. EXPERIENCE

• Fresh Engineering Graduates / Graduate Engineer Trainees.
• Relevant industrial training, internship, or exposure to steel plant/mechanical maintenance operations.

5. SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

• Basic understanding of mechanical maintenance practices.
• Knowledge of preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance concepts.
• Basic understanding of maintenance documentation, reporting, and breakdown analysis.
• Awareness of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 requirements.
• Good coordination and team supervision skills.
• Ability to work effectively with maintenance teams and contract workmen.
• Strong focus on safety, housekeeping, discipline, and compliance.
• Good communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a plant and industrial environment.

6. KEY PERFORMANCE FOCUS

The position will primarily focus on supporting effective maintenance execution, equipment reliability, maintenance documentation and reporting, safety and housekeeping compliance, and coordination of maintenance manpower within the SMS Mechanical Department.
