Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and guide millwrights, fitters, helpers and riggers for daily mechanical activities.
- Execute and supervise installation, dismantling, alignment, maintenance and repair of plant machinery.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, equipment layouts, OEM manuals and assembly drawings.
- Carry out precision alignment and leveling of motors, gearboxes, pumps, fans, conveyors and other rotating equipment.
- Handle maintenance of ball mills/VRMs, crushers, conveyors, bucket elevators, screw conveyors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, compressors and material-handling equipment.
- Inspect bearings, shafts, couplings, seals, belts, chains, sprockets and other mechanical components for wear or damage.
- Troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns and coordinate quick restoration of equipment to minimize production downtime.
- Supervise dismantling, assembly and installation using chain blocks, hydraulic jacks, cranes, slings and other lifting/rigging equipment.
- Ensure correct clearances, tolerances, lubrication and torque requirements during assembly.
- Coordinate with production, electrical/instrumentation, welding and civil teams during maintenance and shutdown activities.
- Allocate manpower, tools and materials and monitor job progress against the maintenance schedule.
- Ensure work is completed according to drawings, specifications, quality requirements and OEM recommendations.
- Conduct routine inspections and assist in preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- Maintain job cards, maintenance records, inspection reports and equipment history.
- Enforce PTW, LOTO, PPE, work-at-height, confined-space and lifting/rigging safety procedures.
- Conduct toolbox talks and ensure safe working practices within the crew.
- Check workmanship and ensure housekeeping after completion of work.
- Report equipment defects, material requirements, manpower requirements and job progress to the senior foreman/engineer.
- Support planned shutdowns, major overhauls, commissioning and emergency breakdown maintenance.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical power transmission and rotating equipment.
- Pump, gearbox, bearing and coupling maintenance.
- Shaft/coupling alignment using dial gauge and/or laser alignment tools.
- Knowledge of conveyor and bucket-elevator maintenance.
- Understanding of mechanical drawings and tolerances.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Knowledge of rigging, lifting and safe handling of heavy equipment.
- Ability to use vernier caliper, micrometer, dial indicator, feeler gauge, spirit level, etc.
- Good understanding of preventive maintenance and breakdown analysis.
Typical millwright-foreman roles emphasize crew supervision, equipment installation, dismantling, alignment, repair and safe execution of work. In cement/process plants, the equipment scope commonly includes mills, crushers, conveyors, bucket elevators, fans, gearboxes, pumps and compressors.
Qualification & Experience
- ITI Fitter / Millwright or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Typically 5–8+ years of mechanical maintenance/erection experience, with some supervisory/foreman experience preferred.
- Cement plant, steel plant, power plant, mining, bulk-material handling or other heavy-process-plant experience is advantageous.
