JUNIOR WELDER

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out arc/MIG/TIG/gas welding, cutting, grinding and fabrication work as required in the SMS area.
• Perform welding and repair work on electrical equipment structures, cable trays, supports, brackets, panels, platforms and maintenance fixtures.
• Assist electrical maintenance personnel during installation, modification and repair of equipment and supporting structures.
• Execute breakdown and preventive maintenance welding jobs safely and within the required time.
• Read basic fabrication drawings, sketches and dimensions and select suitable welding methods and electrodes.
• Inspect welded joints for strength, alignment, dimensions and visible defects.
• Operate and maintain welding machines, gas-cutting sets, grinders and other tools properly.
• Maintain welding consumables, tools and equipment and report defects or shortages to the supervisor.
• Follow PTW (Permit to Work), LOTO, PPE, hot-work permit and other SMS safety procedures.
• Maintain good housekeeping around the work area and ensure removal of welding slag, scrap and combustible materials.
• Coordinate with electrical, mechanical and production teams during maintenance activities.
• Record completed jobs and report abnormalities or unsafe conditions to the shift in-charge.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• ITI / relevant vocational qualification in Welder trade preferred.
• Relevant experience in steel plant, SMS, heavy engineering or industrial maintenance preferred.
• Knowledge of different welding processes, electrodes, welding parameters and gas cutting.
• Ability to work safely in high-temperature, dusty and heavy-industrial environments.
• Basic understanding of electrical safety and industrial safety practices.
• Physically fit and willing to work in shift operations.
