Key Responsibilities

1. Mechanical Maintenance & Reliability

  • Plan, organize, and supervise preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities of RMHS equipment.
  • Ensure maximum availability and reliability of material handling systems.
  • Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Develop maintenance strategies to improve equipment life and reduce downtime.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as MTBF, MTTR, availability, and maintenance costs.

2. RMHS Equipment Management

Responsible for maintenance and performance of:

  • Belt conveyors and conveyor drives
  • Stackers and reclaimers
  • Crushers and screens
  • Vibrating feeders
  • Wagon tipplers/track hoppers
  • Bucket elevators
  • Dust extraction systems
  • Transfer houses
  • Hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Gearboxes, couplings, bearings, and rotating equipment
  • Material storage and reclaim systems

3. Shutdown & Turnaround Planning

  • Prepare annual and monthly shutdown plans.
  • Coordinate with operations, electrical, instrumentation, and procurement teams.
  • Ensure timely execution of shutdown jobs within budget and schedule.
  • Review post-shutdown performance and identify improvement opportunities.

4. Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop maintenance engineers, supervisors, and technicians.
  • Allocate manpower and resources effectively.
  • Conduct training programs on maintenance practices and safety procedures.
  • Drive a culture of accountability, discipline, and continuous improvement.

5. Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses.
  • Promote safe work practices including LOTO (Lockout-Tagout).
  • Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure adherence to environmental and dust-control requirements.

6. Spare Parts & Inventory Management

  • Identify critical spares and maintain optimum inventory levels.
  • Review spare consumption and control maintenance costs.
  • Coordinate with stores and procurement for timely availability of materials.
  • Participate in vendor evaluation and technical inspections.

7. Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Prepare annual maintenance budgets.
  • Monitor expenditure against approved budgets.
  • Implement cost-reduction and energy-efficiency initiatives.
  • Optimize maintenance contracts and outsourced services.

8. Continuous Improvement

  • Implement TPM, RCM, predictive maintenance, and reliability initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades and modernization.
  • Use root cause analysis (RCA) techniques for recurring failures.
  • Drive digitization and condition-monitoring projects where applicable.

9. Coordination with DRI Operations

  • Ensure uninterrupted raw material feeding to the DRI plant.
  • Coordinate with production teams to meet daily production targets.
  • Support process improvements related to material handling and throughput enhancement.

  • Strong knowledge of RMHS equipment and mechanical systems.
  • Expertise in preventive and predictive maintenance techniques.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, and conveyor systems.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA), FMEA, TPM, and reliability engineering.
  • SAP/CMMS maintenance management systems.
  • Leadership, planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Budgeting and contractor management.

Typical Experience Requirement

  • B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 10–15 years of experience in steel, sponge iron, pellet, power, mining, or bulk material handling plants.
  • At least 3–5 years in a supervisory/managerial role handling RMHS or DRI mechanical maintenance.
