Main Responsibilities

1. Furnace Operation

• Operate and monitor the melting furnace during production.
• Charge raw materials such as scrap, sponge iron (DRI), ferro alloys, and fluxes into the furnace.
• Control melting temperature and process parameters.

2. Steel Melting Process

• Ensure proper melting of metal as per production target.
• Maintain chemical composition and temperature according to quality requirements.
• Take sample checks and coordinate with the lab for analysis.

3. Tapping Operations

• Carry out tapping of molten steel safely into ladles.
• Monitor slag condition and ensure smooth tapping operation.

4. Process Monitoring

• Observe furnace performance, power consumption, and melting time.
• Identify abnormalities such as overheating, lining damage, or power fluctuations.

5. Safety Compliance

• Follow all safety procedures while handling molten metal.
• Use PPE such as heat-resistant suit, helmet, gloves, face shield, and safety shoes.
• Ensure safe working practices in high-temperature areas.

6. Coordination

• Coordinate with crane operators, refractory team, maintenance, and quality department.
• Inform supervisors about operational issues or breakdowns.

7. Housekeeping

• Maintain cleanliness around furnace and operating area.
• Ensure tools and equipment are kept properly after use.

Skills Required

• Knowledge of steel melting process
• Understanding of furnace operation
• Basic knowledge of metallurgy and temperature control
• Awareness of industrial safety practices
• Teamwork and communication skills

Qualification

• ITI / Diploma preferred
• Experience in SMS or steel plant operations is an advantage
