Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor rolling mill electrical systems from the pulpit/control panel.
- Monitor PLC/HMI/SCADA, VFD/DC drives, motors, MCCs, and electrical parameters.
- Start, stop, and control rolling mill equipment according to operating procedures.
- Monitor motor current, voltage, speed, temperature, drive status, alarms, and interlocks.
- Identify electrical faults, abnormal conditions, and equipment trips and inform the Electrical Maintenance team promptly.
- Coordinate with mechanical, production, and electrical maintenance teams during breakdowns and equipment start-up.
- Follow prescribed SOPs, interlocks, permissive logic, and safety procedures.
- Maintain continuous communication with field operators and ensure correct equipment sequence.
- Record operating parameters, breakdowns, alarms, and shift-related observations.
- Assist maintenance personnel during troubleshooting by providing fault history, alarm information, and equipment status.
- Ensure proper implementation of LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) and electrical safety requirements before maintenance activities.
- Monitor emergency-stop systems and respond appropriately to abnormal or unsafe conditions.
- Support smooth changeover, rolling schedule changes, and mill start-up/shutdown activities.
- Maintain good housekeeping and comply with plant safety, quality, and environmental standards.
Required Technical Knowledge:
- Basic/working knowledge of AC/DC motors, VFDs, drives, MCCs, transformers, contactors, relays, and control circuits.
- Knowledge of PLC/HMI/SCADA operation and alarm interpretation.
- Understanding of electrical interlocks, permissive systems, and sequence control.
- Familiarity with rolling mill equipment such as roughing/finishing stands, pinch rolls, shears, cooling beds, conveyors, coilers, and auxiliary systems.
- Ability to read basic electrical drawings and understand control logic.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical safety and emergency procedures.
Qualification & Experience:
- ITI / Diploma in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Experience in a steel plant, rolling mill, or heavy industrial electrical control room is desirable.
- Ability to work in shifts and handle emergency/breakdown situations.
