Job Description (JD)

1. Rigging and Lifting Operations

  • Prepare, inspect, and use rigging equipment such as wire ropes, slings, shackles, hooks, chain blocks, and lifting beams.
  • Attach and secure loads for lifting by cranes, hoists, or other lifting equipment.
  • Guide and control loads during lifting, shifting, and positioning operations.
  • Ensure proper load balancing and weight distribution.

2. Maintenance Support in RMHS

  • Assist mechanical maintenance teams during replacement and installation of:
    • Conveyor belts
    • Rollers and idlers
    • Pulleys
    • Gearboxes
    • Motors
    • Feeders and hoppers
    • Chutes and structural components
  • Support shutdown and breakdown maintenance activities.

3. Inspection of Rigging Equipment

  • Inspect slings, ropes, chains, hooks, and lifting accessories before use.
  • Identify damaged or defective lifting gear and remove it from service.
  • Maintain records of rigging tools and lifting equipment inspections.

4. Safety Compliance

  • Follow safe lifting practices and lifting plans.
  • Ensure compliance with permit-to-work and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Verify crane capacity and lifting equipment suitability before operations.
  • Use proper hand signals and communication methods with crane operators.
  • Wear required PPE and adhere to plant safety rules.

5. Material Handling and Equipment Positioning

  • Assist in shifting heavy spares, machinery, and structural items within the RMHS area.
  • Position equipment accurately during installation and alignment work.
  • Help in erection and dismantling activities during project and maintenance jobs.

6. Housekeeping and Workplace Safety

  • Maintain cleanliness in work areas after lifting activities.
  • Ensure lifting zones are barricaded and free from unauthorized personnel.
  • Remove rigging equipment safely after completion of work.

Skills Required

  • Knowledge of rigging tools and lifting techniques.
  • Ability to read lifting plans and understand load capacities.
  • Familiarity with crane signaling and communication.
  • Awareness of industrial safety and hazard identification.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical equipment used in RMHS.

Typical Qualification

  • ITI (Fitter/Rigger/Mechanical trades) or equivalent.
  • Valid rigger certification (where required).
  • Experience in steel plants, DRI plants, power plants, cement plants, or heavy industry is often preferred.

Primary Objective

The main responsibility of a Rigger in DRI-RMHS is to ensure safe and efficient lifting, shifting, installation, and maintenance support for raw material handling equipment while preventing accidents, equipment damage, and production delays
