Key Responsibilities

Conduct chemical analysis of DRI/sponge iron, iron ore, coal, pellets, and other raw materials.

Analyze key quality parameters such as:
-
Total Iron (Fe)
-
Metallic Iron (Met Fe)
-
FeO
-
Gangue/SiO₂, Al₂O₃, CaO, MgO
-
Sulphur and Phosphorus
-
Fixed Carbon, Ash, Volatile Matter and Moisture in coal
-
Metallization percentage
-
-
Perform routine testing using wet chemical methods, instrumental analysis and laboratory equipment such as XRF, spectrophotometer, muffle furnace, analytical balance, etc., as applicable.

Monitor and verify process samples from different stages of the DRI plant.

Ensure sampling, sample preparation, testing and reporting are carried out according to approved SOPs and test methods.

Check analytical results and investigate abnormal/out-of-specification results.
-
Maintain calibration and performance records of laboratory instruments.
-
Prepare daily, shift-wise and monthly quality reports and test certificates.
-
Maintain laboratory chemicals, reagents, reference materials and consumables.
-
Ensure proper 5S, housekeeping, safety and chemical-handling practices in the laboratory.

Train and guide junior chemists and laboratory technicians.
-
Coordinate with Production, Process Control, Raw Material, and QA/QC teams to resolve quality-related issues.

Participate in internal audits, external audits and ISO/quality-system activities.
-
Ensure traceability and proper retention/disposal of samples and test records.
Required Qualification
-
B.Sc./M.Sc. in Chemistry or equivalent.
-
Typically 4–8 years of experience in quality-control laboratories, preferably in DRI/sponge iron, steel, iron ore, pellet or metallurgical industries.

Knowledge of chemical analysis, instrumental techniques, calibration, SOPs and laboratory safety.
-
Experience with ISO 9001/17025 practices is an advantage.
