2. Key Responsibilities
A. Electrical Maintenance
- Carry out preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of electrical equipment.
- Maintain and troubleshoot HT/LT motors, transformers, generators, switchgear, circuit breakers, MCCs, PCCs, VFDs, UPS systems, battery chargers, and DC systems.
- Maintain generator electrical systems, excitation systems, protection circuits, and associated auxiliaries.
- Inspect and maintain electrical equipment in coal handling, ash handling, boiler, turbine, cooling tower, and utility areas, as applicable.
- Analyze equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure proper functioning of electrical protection systems, interlocks, and emergency shutdown circuits.
B. Operation and Plant Reliability
- Coordinate electrical maintenance activities with CPP operation, mechanical, instrumentation, and production teams.
- Support generator synchronization, load management, and safe isolation of electrical equipment, as authorized.
- Monitor equipment health, electrical parameters, and recurring faults.
- Improve equipment reliability and reduce forced outages and maintenance costs.
- Ensure timely completion of maintenance jobs during planned shutdowns and annual overhauls.
C. Testing and Inspection
- Perform or coordinate insulation resistance, polarization index, contact resistance, transformer oil testing, and other applicable diagnostic tests.
- Conduct thermography, earthing inspections, and condition monitoring of critical electrical equipment.
- Verify relay settings, protection coordination, and breaker operating mechanisms in coordination with authorized specialists.
- Maintain records of test results and equipment condition.
D. Safety and Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, Permit to Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and safe isolation practices.
- Ensure proper earthing, electrical interlocks, protective devices, and electrical PPE availability.
- Follow applicable CEA regulations, electrical safety standards, and company procedures.
- Participate in safety audits, incident investigations, and risk assessments.
- Ensure that only authorized and competent personnel perform electrical switching and high-voltage work.
E. Planning and Documentation
- Prepare preventive maintenance schedules, inspection plans, and shutdown maintenance plans.
- Maintain equipment history cards, breakdown reports, test records, and maintenance checklists.
- Monitor critical spares and coordinate procurement of electrical components.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance reports.
- Use CMMS/SAP or other maintenance management systems for work orders, notifications, and maintenance records.
F. Energy Efficiency and Continuous Improvement
- Monitor auxiliary power consumption and identify opportunities to reduce electrical losses.
- Improve motor efficiency, power factor, and electrical system reliability.
- Analyze recurring failures and implement root cause analysis (RCA).
- Support energy conservation, cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives.
3. Educational Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Electrical Engineering, preferably.
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering may be considered depending on company requirements and experience.
4. Experience
- Typically 5–8 years of relevant experience in electrical maintenance of a thermal power plant, CPP, industrial power plant, steel plant, cement plant, or similar heavy industry.
- Experience with HT/LT electrical systems, generators, transformers, switchgear, motors, and electrical protection systems is essential.
5. Technical Skills
- Knowledge of HT/LT distribution systems and single-line diagrams.
- Working knowledge of generators, transformers, motors, relays, circuit breakers, VFDs, and electrical auxiliaries.
- Familiarity with electrical testing instruments and condition-monitoring techniques.
- Understanding of power plant electrical systems, protection schemes, and interlocking.
- Knowledge of PTW, LOTO, electrical safety, RCA, and preventive maintenance planning.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, maintenance documentation, and SAP/CMMS.

- Electrical equipment availability and reliability.
- Reduction in electrical breakdowns and forced outages.
- Compliance with preventive maintenance schedules.
- Reduction in repeat failures and maintenance costs.
