Key Responsibilities
- Supervise mechanical maintenance of DRI equipment, including rotary kiln, cooler, rotary feeder, conveyors, screens, bucket elevators, fans, blowers, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Allocate work to technicians, fitters, welders, and contract manpower, ensuring timely completion.
- Inspect equipment regularly and identify potential failures to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with production and electrical/instrumentation teams during maintenance shutdowns.
- Ensure proper alignment, lubrication, bearing replacement, coupling maintenance, and equipment overhauls.
- Monitor spare parts consumption and raise material requisitions when required.
- Maintain maintenance records, logbooks, checklists, and daily reports.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and use of PPE.
- Investigate equipment failures and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Support annual shutdown planning and major equipment overhauls.
- Train and guide technicians on maintenance procedures and safe work practices.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained in the maintenance area.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of DRI mechanical equipment and maintenance practices.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
- Knowledge of alignment, vibration, lubrication, and condition monitoring.
- Familiarity with welding, fabrication, and rigging practices.
- Leadership and team management skills.
- Good troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Basic computer skills for maintenance documentation and reporting.
Educational Qualification
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or ITI (Fitter) with relevant experience.
- Additional certifications in industrial safety or maintenance are an advantage.
Experience
- Typically 5–10 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a DRI, steel, cement, power, or heavy industrial plant, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory role.
